2009 Schedule of Events
April 11, 2009 – Easter Bunny Is Coming
to Town! Visit the Easter Bunny and receive treats
for the youngsters on the front porch of the Manning Plaza between
10:00 – 11:30 am. This event is sponsored by the Lambda Eta Sorority.
May 2, 2009 - Presbyterian May Breakfast
held on the first Saturday of May each year. Tickets available from
church members or at the door.
May 23, 2009 – Chamber Spring Golf Classic,
with a shot gun start at 12:00 noon. This is a four-person best ball
tournament with maximum of 22 teams participating. Call 655-2968 for
details. Proceeds will benefit Main Street Iowa program.
June 7, 2009 – 125th Annual Schuetzen
Verein King Shoot
Five Mile House, northwest of Manning. The Hayes Township Schuetzen
Verein is the only traditional German King Shoot contest remaining
in Iowa. Activities begin at 9AM with polka dancing, lunch and shooting
contests following to determine the King and ball throwing to determine

June, 2009 (date TBA) - Great Western
Youth Fishing Derby & Casting Contest
Great Western Park, southwest edge of Manning. Enjoy the DNR’s free
fishing weekend. Ages 5-15 will compete for prizes for biggest fish
and most fish caught in several age categories. Prizes awarded to
everyone that wets a line! Meet at the Great Western Shelter house
to fish from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Bring your own fishing pole or borrow

June 20, 2009 - Kinderfest –
Manning’s 126th annual tradition will be held on Father's Day weekend.
It is believed to be the oldest heritage celebration in Iowa. This
festival provides a day of old-fashioned family fun for children of
all ages! The day is highlighted by an annual parade of children and
traditional king and queen contests. The city park overflows with
games, contests, rides, foods, Bill Riley Talent Show, Fire Department
water fights, 5K Fun Run, musical entertainment and culminates with

June 28, 2009 – 7th Annual Midwest Old
Iron Tractor Ride and Fun Day
Great Western Park, southwest edge of Manning. Registration begins
at 8:30 a.m. at the Great Western Park with the drive starting at
9:30 am. This year’s tractor ride route will head southeast to Halbur
on all hard surfaced roads, covering 20 to 25 miles. Following the
tractor ride, lunch and a variety of activities for the whole family
will be enjoyed at the Great Western Park. Tractors 1960 and older

August 7 & 8, 2009 – 7th Annual
Hwy 141 Garage Sale - The Hwy 141 garage sale will
stretch nearly 100 miles between the communities of Grimes and Manilla.
Manning's annual city-wide garage sales will take place Aug. 7 &
8 in conjunction with the Hwy. 141 event. Manning features craft stands,
farmer's market, concession stands and a flea market in the city park.

August 15, 2009 – 23rd Annual Show &
Shine Car Show - This classic car show draws over
100 early - to - late model cars and pickups to Main Street Manning.
Music, food and "car talk" fills the street. Registration
begins at 9AM with judging of the 29 classes from 1-4PM. Food stands,
sidewalk sales, and musical entertainment offer fun for the whole

October 4, 2009 – Zion Lutheran Church
Harvest Fest (potluck). Bring your appetites to the
Zion Lutheran Church in Manning for the annual Harvest Fest. This
annual fundraiser is open to the public. Serving 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
Tickets available at the door.
October 18, 2009 - Presbyterian Smorgasbord.
This annual fundraiser features some of the best homemade dishes.
Be prepared to go home with a full stomach. Serving 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

November 27, 2009 - Weihnachtsfest
- Manning's 23rd annual festival will open with traditional ceremony
Friday evening featuring a lighted parade, mass lighting of Main Street,
festival of trees, fireworks, holiday music, the arrival of Santa
Claus and special children's activities. Holiday events continue through
the weekend, providing special holiday events for all ages and the
Christmas Walk through the City Park with beautiful lighted displays.
Other lighted Christmas displays include Ohde Funeral Home on First
Street and Merlyn Irlbeck’s residence one-half mile south of the east

Dec. 6, 2009 - Advent by Candlelight
– This annual Christmas tradition is open to the public and held at
the Zion Lutheran Church in South Manning. Seating is limited. The
event features decorated tables, desserts and holiday entertainment.
