| March 11- Second Annual Comedy Club Night/Sports Souvenir Auction sponsored by the West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation to be held at the Dedham American Legion Hall in Dedham. Enjoy an evening of hilarious comedy from the Funny Bone Comedy Club. All funds raised will benefit efforts to recruit another physician to the Manning area. For more information, call 655-3624. May 27 – Manning’s Annual Chamber Gold Classic golf tournament will be sponsored by the Manning Chamber of Commerce. It is a four-person best ball tournament. June 3 - Great Western Youth Fishing Derby & Casting Contest will be held at Great Western Park, southwest of Manning. Children age 5-15 will compete for prizes for biggest fish and most fish caught in several age categories. Prizes awarded to everyone that wets a line! Meet at the Great Western Shelter to register at 8:00 a.m. Participants can bring fishing poles or borrow poles at the event. No licenses needed! The Hayes Township Shuetzen Verein is the only traditional German King Shoot contest remaining in Iowa. Activities begin at 9:00 a.m. with polka dancing, lunch and shooting contests following to determine a king and ball throwing to determine a queen. Contact Roger Sinow at 712- 563-3002 for details. June 5 – The 15th Annual Quakerdale of Manning Golf Outing will be sponsored by the Quakerdale Development Council of Western Iowa to benefit Quakerdale and its work with youth and families. Visit www.manningia.com for details. June 17 - Kinderfest - This 123 year-old tradition, held annually Father's Day weekend, is believed to be the oldest heritage celebration in Iowa. It provides a day of old-fashioned family fun for children of all ages! The day is highlighted by an annual parade of children and traditional king and queen contests. The city park overflows with games, rides, foods, Bill Riley Talent Show, musical entertainment, teen dance, and culminates with a dazzling fireworks display at dusk. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the drive starting mid-morning. Following the tractor ride to Templeton and back, lunch and a variety of activities for the whole family will be enjoyed at the park. Tractors 1960 and older may participate. July 13 (rain date July 20) - The 13th Annual West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation Golf Classic will be held at the M&M Country Club. Proceeds from the event help support the Manning Regional Healthcare Center. Opportunities exist for team and hole sponsorships, along with flag and flight prize donations. Manning's annual city-wide garage sales will take place in conjunction with the Hwy. 141 event. Manning will feature craft stands, farmer's market, concession stands and a flea market. August 12 – The 21st Annual Show & Shine Car Show and Deutche Tag will be held on Main Street Manning. The classic car show draws over 100 early-to-late model cars and pickups. Registration is $15 and begins at 9:00 a.m. with judging of the 29 classes from 1-4 p.m. Kiddie barrel rides, ice cold watermelon, food stand, sidewalk sales, and musical entertainment offer fun for the whole family. November 24-25 – Weihnachtsfest, Manning's 20th annual Christmas festival will open with traditional ceremony Friday evening featuring a lighted parade, mass lighting of Main Street, living window displays, fireworks, music, marshmallow roasting, the arrival of Santa Claus and special children's activities.
