MHS Jazz Band takes
8th place honors in Class 1A

For the second consecutive year Manning High School Jazz Band was selected to perform at the State Jazz Band Championships held April 5 in Des Moines, IA. Manning was one of 15 bands selected from Class 1A. And for the second consecutive year the band returned home with an eighth place trophy in hand. The trophy reflects the talent, hard work and dedication demonstrated by its members.

"When you think that there are probably close to one hundred schools in the state that are in Class 1A, it's an honor and privilege just to be considered for the Iowa Jazz Championships", said Mr. Don Struve, Manning Band Director.

Stessman, Outstanding Soloist
Andy Stessman, a Senior at Manning and the lead alto sax player in the Manning Jazz Band, was selected as one of four musicians to receive an "Outstanding Soloist" plaque at the Iowa Jazz Championships in Des Moines on Tuesday, April 5. Earlier this year Andy, son of Bob and Lois Stessman, was also selected to participate as lead alto sax player in the Jazz All State Honor Band. The Jazz All State Band will perform in Des Moines May 14. Kelsey Feser of Manning will also participate as the lead trombone player on this date.
